Message An EPROM is a type of non-volatile memory chip, and an ASIC is a type of processor.

Usually you replace a general purpose processor like an i8088 with an ASIC made specifically for the task. It does the task quicker and more efficiently.

Are you sure they replaced the EPROM with an ASIC and not a Flash Memory chip?

Or did they replace the old processor+EPROM combo with a specially made ASIC chip that does the processing and has some flash memory space on it?
